Frustration....again?

What happens when you have a problem child and one 'non problem' child, and they are at each others' necks all day. I am exhausted frankly...I see my deviant ex in my son and sometimes....yes sometimes...I do wonder what I am doing fighting every way possible for that restraining order against the ex to protect the kids. Ths son could just go and live the ex ...he will turn out like him anyways! and that is the biggest biggest frustration in my life, that I am not able to do enough to steer the kids behaviour in the right direction. If things continue the way they are he will nd up exactly like the ex....not a minute goes by where I dont blame myself for being blind and having had a child with the ex......

Children know when you are pretending....

I was depressed and my kids knew it....they were cranky and irritable and listless. All this in-spite of the fact that I was trying to be cheerful. The day turned out very bad, we all had tiffs, we were all sad and at the end of the day we were all miserable...we did'nt do anything much else than that!

How do you teach hindi to a non hindi speaking child:)

Ok so let me make this very clear: my son hates hates absolutely hates studying for his hindi tests...why? Not sure....maybe because he does'nt know the language very well and so it is blind mugging up as he says. And where does that leave me? Well it leaves me hearing things like "I hate you mummy" "what I have to read this, write?", etc. I wonder why we don't have a more meaningful teaching methodology for languages in schools. Until a student has not decided to specialize in a particular language, what is the point of teaching them about aspects of the language they would never use in their daily routine. For example, with a second language the goal should be to familiarize the child with the language, equip him with reading and writing skills of the language, deep enough for him to appreciate poetry and read up high end novels in that language. If this is the objective then the syllabus for each class should be made in order to achieve this aim. Sadly, I don't find this is the case. So I find myself doing the hateful task of making my son memorize meaninglessly pages and pages of prose that he is expected to recollect and write down on a piece of paper called the weekly test paper.....tomorrow may be a better day:)

So how does writing 5 pages help knowledge?

My son has issues with writing class notes....he finds it boring, he hates writing, etc...so I am left with the uphill task of making sure his class notes are complete, even though I cannot understand how just writing the notes makes him an ideal student. I make him write the incomplete notes so that is a bigger issue, other mothers write it themselves and so that makes me the odd one out!!! I am sure my kid looks enviously at all those other kids with Normal mothers. Anyways I spent the better part of the morning taking the class notes of another child, photocopying them and I can picture the evening today with 10 pages to complete my child will be at his defiant-most. I sit here now staring at the perfect letters in the class notes that I have photocopied from another child and wonder how much that child learnt merely as a result of copying from the blackboard....depressing...this has to change someone has to change the system someday:)

What does it mean to be a mom?

I am sure every mother asks herself this question at some point in their life!!! I am the mother of 2 kids aged 8 and 4, boy and girl respectively. I am almost 40 and I thought I was done with with learning new things until I had my first child....I can say now with certainty that every moment is a new learning experience. I learn, I change, I unlearn, I change again and the story continues....I want to share my experiences with other mothers out there and I also hope to learn from your experiences. These days I mostly think and talk about the education system/schools in Hyderabad and how I had such an amazing time in my childhood in school versus the very tiresome very stressful school days for my children. That aside, I think children need nurturing of the soul inspite of the external factors that affect them in their day to day functioning. It is this nurturing of the soul that I try to provide each moment of the day.
